Two Timing

Did someone order the fireworks show in Los Angeles? Whoever did, it was an explossive show! Hanging to their lifeline, the Dodgers came out an punched the Red Sox in the face, scoring four runs in the first two innings. Knocked down, but not knocked out, Pud Galvin settled in and kept the Dodgers in check. Simmering on the oven, the Red Sox offense was waiting to boil over. Turning the heat up in the 5th inning, Boston scored four to tie the game. Lefty Grove melted down and was scooped off the mound. The game didn't get any better for the Dodgers bullpen. Rube Foster and Bobo Newsom couldn't to keep the ball from flying everywhere. The Sox scored another five runs to take a 8-4 lead. The Dodgers did manage to come out of their stupor and score two runs to cut the lead to two runs.

Placing Harry Byrd on the mound, thinking this would be the solution to stopping the Red Sox offense. Nope. The Sox scored three more runs. The score, 12-6. LA fans were quiet. Then things started happening. Duke Snider scored. 12-7. Honus Wagner scored. 12-8. Eddie Mathews and Johnny Mize were waiting on base as Mel Ott stepped to the plate. Ott sent a pitch into the seats in right field. The stadium went crazy! The score now 12-11. Galvin finally relented. Larry Jackson stepped in to save the game, and save it he did. Richie Ashburn fly out to center.


The Boston dugout cleared out as the players stormed the field to mob Jackson. The Sox win their second straight World Series and all the Dodgers could was watch the celebration in their own house.
