All Anaheim

The Angels rolled into Montreal and delivered a complete, professional, no‑nonsense 6–0 shutout, powered by four home runs and a pitching staff that never blinked. After three quiet innings, Anaheim flipped the switch in the 4th. Pete Reiser opened the scoring with a solo shot, his second of the year. Then came the knockout punch in the 6th as Charlie Grimm crushed his 7th homer, Bill Nicholson followed with his 6th, Anaheim put up four runs in the frame and never looked back. And just for good measure, Taylor Douthit added a solo homer in the 8th, his third. Anaheim finished with 12 hits, every big swing perfectly timed. The Expos scattered seven hits but couldn’t string anything together. But the rest of the lineup? Silent. Montreal struck out seven times and grounded into a key double play.

The Red Sox came out swinging Sunday afternoon, but the bats went quiet just long enough for Oakland to slip out of Fenway Park with a 5–4 win, handing Boston its 13th loss of the season. Boston struck for three runs in the first two innings, highlighted by Al Simmons’ 14th homer of the year and a pair of RBI from Charlie Gehringer. But the momentum didn’t last. Oakland answered with single tallies in the first and third, then pushed across two more in the sixth to take the lead for good. The turning point came when Paul Waner, who tormented Boston all day with a 3-for-4, HR, 2 RBI performance, ripped a triple and later homered as part of Oakland’s late push. The A’s lineup collected 10 hits, matching Boston’s total but cashing in at the right moments. Boston had its chances. Frank Robinson tied the game briefly with a solo shot in the fourth—his sixth of the season—but the Sox never mounted another serious threat. They finished the afternoon 0-for-0 with runners in scoring position and grounded into a key double play in the late innings.
